City Chic, Vacay Vibe

Just because you’re not vogue’ing poolside with your favorite fruity cocktail does not mean you can’t indulge in resort wear. Resort collections are no longer targeted solely at winter vacationers— they’re for anyone who wants to take a break from cold weather garb (this season so dominated by somber grey) and add exuberant splashes of color in pink, tangerine, red, lemon yellow, pea green, turquoise, or timeless black and white.

Global Chic Fashion Feature 1This color blocked dress from Tracy Reese (1) is paired with black tights—but that dash of pink in the skirt says you just can’t wait for spring. The adorable baby pink trapeze top from Paul and Joe (2) features flutter sleeves with keyhole and bow details on the back, and a boat neck that shows off the collar bone in a way sure to flatter even the most demure fashionista; it’s begging to be worn when the temps rise. Chloe’s silk turquoise tank dress (3) screams resort, but paired with tights and a turtleneck and it’s a dress you can wear practically year-round.

Global Chic Fashion Feature 2The trench will always rule, which is why it’s permanently on every style setter’s must-have list. Update this timeless classic choosing looks with fun colors, prints or metallic washes, like fabulous jungle green. This Marc Jacobs trench (4) features a double breasted design, shorter length and large lapels. Just pair this baby with black leggings and a tank or tee and you’re sure to strut in style; it’s so on-trend, it can also double as a jacket. Or let your inner feline loose in a Michael Kors leopard print version (5).

Global Chic Fashion Feature Giambattista Valli0108If so much color feels a bit intimidating, try classic black and white - always fresh, always chic, forever effortless. A hands-down insider fave is a white silk crepe organza frock accented with clusters of tulle-covered beads from Giambattista Valli (6). On the runway what stood out was its striking simplicity and originality - who could forget those long billowy sleeves, the high collar and the black beading detail that just draws the eye in? - while on Katie Holmes (in January’s InStyle) it proved breathtaking - simultaneously chic, classic, girlie and pristine. Stunning!

Global Chic Fashion Feature 3 0108Zac Posen’s take on this color combo (7) is so subtle, it could be mistaken for grey; what’s unmistakable is how pretty it is. And for equal chic coming & going, this classic black shift with white trim from Rachel Pally (8) adds a sexy surprise: a keyhole cut-out in back that will turn admiring heads as you make your stylish getaway.
